Drew,
I'm in the process of applying to be a Kiva fellow myself, and I've been reading through the Fellow blog to learn more about what you all do. After reading several of your posts, I just wanted to say that (in addition to being a superb writer and a powerful voice for Kiva and its entrepreneurs), you have further inspired me to apply for this incredible opportunity. Many thanks!

As my friend, Steve F, said above, a group of us Kiva lenders over at kivafriends.org were so taken by the story of Florence K and her school that we are currently engaged in an attempt to raise some additional monies for Ms. Kaluuba and her girls.
For anyone who is interested in learning more about it, please check out the following:

We will be collecting contributions probably up to sometime in early February, 2008, wanting to make sure we are able to relay the funds to Uganda before Drew Kinder leaves his Kiva post. Thanks, again, to Drew and our regards to Florence Kaluuba and her students.

What a terrific outcome...thank you Drew for making the situations and circumstances experienced by so many in the world, so much more life like and apparent. Florence and Mirembe are becoming all the buzz over at Kiva Friends, and as Jill pointed out, we hope to be able to contribute to her cause in a very direct manner. I must say that it is an effort like yours that informs and inspires us to ourselves take action and make a difference as well in our own way. From a fellow Buffalonian (live in Wheatfield), have a blessed holiday and be well.

Hey, Drew,
A Kiva lender, a KivaFriend, one of Florence's lenders, here. A couple of things.
Just wanted to tell you what a truly wonderful and affecting post this was of yours.
A number of us openly expressed how really "blown away" we were by your writing, by your telling of this story.
Related, I wrote Kiva.org, but perhaps you might be able to tell me, yourself,
(and I saw that at least one other KivaFriend articulated the same reaction),
absolutely No Guarantees about this part at all, but....
if one or more of us were interested in trying to raise a bit of money for Florence K's school, would you, by chance, be able to help us so as to (pretty absolutely) ensure that the money, if raised, would, in fact, go directly to her and couldn't/wouldn't be at risk by disappearing elsewhere?
    Best regards... and much thanks.
Continue to have a super rich time over there, and do keep us posted,
   Jill
