Just to let you know that our daughter( who is a KIVA fellow in Kampala) experienced the same thing. The bus that was generally only 300 was suddenly 800. She too felt outraged. She found out later from a fellow Ugandan that, indeed, the price was more at night. The driver may not have been cheating you.

I feel your pain (and amusement), my friend. My boyfriend and I almost broke up cos I said that I couldn't afford the $15 skype headphones that would mean we could talk every day. Madness, isn't it?

Great blog, I loved the juxtaposition of the two versions!,

Take care,
Your fellow Fellow

Hi Adam,

Your blog posts are so vivid - thank you for sharing your experience!

I don't know how to get in touch with you... so I'll take a shot by using this comment. I'm working on creating a website for my own activities with Kiva and other charitable donations, volunteering etc. I was wondering if you would give me permission to use 2 of your photos on my upcoming website (soon to be re-designed: www.good.ofitall.com) ?

The photos I found most striking are the one of the market area in your first post (http://kivafellows.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/uganda-31.jpg) and the one of the young kids looking up at the camera.

If you wouldn't mind me using the photos on my website, please let me know: Email: developer DOT web AT gmail DOT com. Thanks!
