I hope I'm doing this right and you get my message. I'm so thrilled to read your blogs and see your picture. It sounds like you're having the time of your life. I'm so proud of you. Lisa helped me to get to your blogsite. Being known as the "grandparent who knows how to use the computer" puts a lot of pressure on me but I perservere until I attain success. In which case is knowing what you're up to. I admire your dedication and strength working with Kiva. Looking forward to more blogs and maybe a personal message once in awhile. Love Grandma

I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon, and though I wasn't posted in the Northwest, I spent some time up there visiting friends. Believe me - in Cameroon terms, you're surrounded by white folks up there in the Bamenda area. White people love the Northwest. If you want to meet some PCVs, visit the New Life grocery store or just pop into Dreamland. And definitely try the guava juice and health food store on Commercial Ave.

I also suggest checking out Bafoussam sometime. I personally loved the West province. You can forget about visiting most of the South or East - there's nothing worth your time there. But definitely get up to Maroua sometime.

If there's something I could say to you and the other folks there writing about Cameroon, it's to assiduously avoid speaking in generalities about the country or the people there; at least until you know what you're talking about. Cameroon, even more so than most countries, is incredibly diverse.

Waka fine.

Lucy, I can feel your excitement and also your concern. I am so very thankful that you are prepared to share your experiences and insights with those of us sitting comfortably here at home and I am personally proud to be given the opportunity to help people around the world as a Kiva lender.
Lucy, I'm delighted to hear that you'll be going to Cameroon to work with GHAPE. For several months I've been trying to find a way to somehow make a contribution to help GHAPE improve their microfinance infrastructure. Can you send me a private message at www.kivafriends.org? My name there is wannado. Or you can just post a message at kivafriends about GHAPE and I'll find you, and then send you a private message. Or, leave a comment here about some other way for us to get in touch. I'm looking forward to hearing from you! -- Marsha
