Wow... incredible post Taryn. It seems the clients all over face some combination of daunting problems, whether it be climate-related, domestic violence, health, etc. Yet so many find a way to perservere.

Keep the updates coming!

When did you arrive in Kampala? Did Kiva give you the Uganda Fellows Welcome Pack that I wrote for them in April? I'm here with my wife, Genevieve - done a stint at PEARL Microfinance but doing our own thing now. How you finding it all? Drop me an email when you get chance. Cheers, Adam

Hi,

Thanks for the visit to Tororo. Life looked hard for women in Tororo in your eyes but at least things have changed what you saw is not as bad as it used to be in early 2000. Am an activist in Tororo l have worked on projects of domestic violence since 2000. The struggle continues

[...] Kiva fellow Taryn Goodman had this to say about her trip to Tororo, Uganda: A few weeks ago there was a special article about a town in Uganda in which the men do nothing but drink, gamble and nurse their hangovers while the women work and tend to the house, children and their needy husbands. The article speculated that the men needed therapy to deal with their lack of motivation resulting from the extreme poverty they are living in. Upon mentioning the article to my associates at work, they said that one of MCDT’s branches, Tororo, suffers from a similar situation and that I should go visit. With that, I found myself making the three and a half hour drive to Tororo from Kampala for a visit….. [...]
