Hi Bill, your stories are great! I was in Uganda about 18 months ago, and reading your blog brings back memories - you really say it how it is! I am wondering if you know if there is a microfinance operator working in Masaka? I am involved with a group there who are looking to set up a small group, and am wondering who to refer them to?

Bill, its truly a blessing to hear your stories and the see the work that your doing. It's amazing how life experiences change us in such a short period of time, where a transformation of one, can have such a profound impact on a much larger global community. Success to you and Kiva; keep up the fantastic work your doing. May your work and life and those around you be filled happiness and bliss!

Thank you Peter, Booper Lily, Leslie, Jen, Jan, John and catch22sl(is that you Sarah?) for reading my post and taking the time to respond to it and share your thoughts. It’s an honor for me to write about my Kiva Fellow experiences, but more importantly, its a duty. The people we meet don’t have a voice and I view it as an obligation to express their situation as honestly and accurately as I can, and hopefully in a way that enlightens, educates and inspires. Thank you for supporting Kiva!

For Grace and Gina's sake I promise to understand their challenges and never, never whine about the photos or loan profiles and I will always comment back to thank them for their dedication to what they do. Thanx Bill, for using words that make everything so real.

I have been following your journey with much interest but this adventure truly brought a smile to my spirit!
I found it quite easy to imagine your uncomfortable state and also your ability to put it aside for your desire to help others.

You have been graced by two wonderful people in Grace in Gina.

Your 'ordinary day' brought this favorite immediately to mind;

"...grant me the serenity
To accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference."

Truer words never spoken! And plenty of courage and wisdom in Gina, Grace, microfinance borrowers, and you too, Bill!

I am smiling. Not only because of the memories of hectic Kampala and its chaotic matatu park. Nor the imagination of seeing the muzungu getting out of the car, being 'the odd one' for once, and not only because I applaude Kiva and how it works.
Mostly I smiled because I recognize the feeling of joy in working with people one can be proud of.

I worked in Uganda for four years. I had the opportunity of working with loads of Ugandans. And I was fortunate enough to be able to pick out the best, and help them 'on their way' in their careers. They are shining in the work they do. And I knew they would the moment I saw the work they did, back then in Uganda.
