I must admit I'm often baffled by the horrendous stories one hears in war-torn countries. I really can't comprehend how people can commit these acts and then go home to their families like nothing ever happened. In my mind it shows that 1) some people are prepared to do anything in the name of someone else, be it religion or their boss, and take no personal responsibility 2) the human brain is frighteningly good at compartmentalizing and coping with moral conflicts and questions of conscience These may or may not apply to Le Colonel but I understand that you are going only on what you know of him.
